Why do you shout?
29 February, 2008

Why do you shout so loudly
When woken from your sleep?
Through blurry eyes you search
For the source of your pain
Bawling and cursing from
Your crumpled, lined face.

When you clamber out of bed
To confront the unseen demons,
I sometimes smile to myself
In my curled-up warm corner.
It is so perfectly you, it lifts
The corners of my heart.

Finally, you give up the quest
And collapse back into bed.
It makes me feel so still to enfold
You and hug away the frustration.
I smell you so close, and you sink
Into my arms, drifting away.
